Gladys Joy does washing for her family of six while at the Imvepi Refugee camp in Northern Uganda on Saturday, 24 June, 2017.  The refugee crisis in East Africa his reached historic levels with Uganda hosting now more than 1.2 million refugees.  Gladys’ family fled their home in Yei, South Sudan after a surge in violence in March.  Many of the new arrivals are from the Yei River State, know to be an ethnically diverse area and the breadbasket of South Sudan.  An UNMISS Human rights reports states that the region experienced an outbreak of ethnically motivated violence in July of 2016, displacing 70 percent of the population, sending a ripple effect across communities.
